SmartNetIntroduction SmartNet is an on-the-air discussion group conducted every Monday, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM Arizona time, on the 2-meter repeater network operated by the Eastern Arizona Amateur Radio Society. The purpose of SmartNet is act as a forum in which to discuss matters related to science, technology, and amateur radio. Some participants present news stories, journal articles, or web pages. Others contribute opinion and their personal experience. In any event, Smartnet is always interesting and thought provoking. While SmartNet is not something of my own creation, I really enjoy participating. Recently, I volunteered to provide SmartNet some small presence on the Web, a place to post and share information, and these pages are the result. Please feel free to contact me if something here needs to be corrected or expanded. Also, if you intend to discuss subject matter taken from a Web site, send me an email with the information and I will add it to the SmartNet URL page. SmartNet Resources Ten Commandments For Repeater Operation (PDF) Repeater use is most efficient and carefree when we observe some simple rules. Nunz, K4VYD recently shared his "Ten Commandments" with the Smartnet group. I've edited and formatted his text, and converted it to PDF format. Print out a copy for yourself and pin it up in your shack. Net control is a duty assumed by volunteers. It's also a great deal of fun. For the benefit of those of us inclined to stage fright, I've created a script or template to guide net control volunteers through the routine. SmartNet enjoys the participation of a number of regulars. During net check-in, the net controller will collect names, call signs, and locations. Terry, KE7GRV has provided a list of names and call signs that makes a handy check list to possibly save net control a lot of writing. SmartNet discussions frequently center around information appearing on Web sites. URLs can be lengthy and complicated to communicate over the radio, what with "slash-this" and "dot-that." This page is intended to be a repository for URLs discussed by SmartNet.
